The Switzer lab is interested in understanding enzyme function. Enzymes have evolved to catalyze a wide-range of chemical reactions with rates greatly increased over the non-catalyzed reactions. Enzymes catalyze the chemical reactions that sustain life, so understanding them is extremely important in biology and in treating diseases. The Switzer lab studies enzyme mechanisms in great detail to shed light on their biological function and their roles in human diseases.
